Almost two decades ago
Almost two decades ago, when he best oakley sunglasses was the AD at Georgia, former Bulldogs coach Vince Dooley was part of a 23-member special committee that took the NCAA's last serious look at a major-college playoff. It ultimately decided, in June 1994, that there wasn't enough support to recommend one.
Dooley had been a proponent of change - actually, of a more modest plus-one plan that simply would have staged a No. 1-vs.-2 championship game after the bowls. He still is, and a four-team playoff will do.
"I'm glad to see it, quite frankly. It's something that needs to be done," Dooley said. "The BCS has had, I think, too much controversy. You can always have some controversy, but this was a lot of controversy - Auburn being a classic example (finishing unbeaten and shut out of the national championship in 2004).
"I think this will help to solve a lot of ray bans wholesale it, and also be productive economically to a lot of schools."
The money to come from the new system, which will entail four top-tier bowls apart from the three-game playoff, is yet to be determined, though estimates run as high as $350-400 million. That would well more than double the BCS' current $155-million-a-year take.
Officials still must determine how it will be distributed among conferences and member schools. Smith cautioned that they'll also have to work on the logistics and financial ramifications of semifinals and a championship game being played as little glasses ray ban 2012 as six days apart.
